USA Overpower Paraguay 4-1, on US Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino's World Cup Debut in Group D, @ FIFA World Cup 2026

SEATTLE, WA (SMI-GLOBAL-SPORTS-JUNE 11-JULY 19, 2026)-World 17, USA(CONCACAF) Overpower PARAGUAY 4-1, scoring 3-goals in the first half to claim its first 3-points on Its Opening Match in Group D, and in front a sold-out crowd of 70,492 fans at Los Angeles Stadium, Inglewood CA.

The Stars and Stripes have qualified to its 12th Global FIFA Tournament as a Co-Host, and went to the attack from the start firing on all cylinders.

In the first offensive attack, striker Christian Pulisic through the leftside field corner ran inside the 18, evading 2-defender and squeezed a pass to midfielder Weston McKennie who tried to pass to Folatin Balogun but it deflected off Paraguay's Damian Bobadilla in back of the net for own goal to put US 1-0, at 7' mark.

In another counter-attack through the leftside field corner, Pulisci again from inside the box crossed it to forward Folarin Balogun who score with a lower rightfooted shot to the far goalpost to make it 2-0, US over the Guaranies at 31', sending the fans in wild celebration.

With the first half time winding down, striker Balogun in a breakaway through the right side field corner evaded 2-defenders and shot a curvy left-footed to the upper left goalpost corner in back of the net to make it 3-0, in stoppage-time 45+5 at the half.

​

Paraguay's Mauricio discounted to make it 3-1, USA at 73' mark. Giovanni Reyna added another goal in stoppage time 90+8, during a individual play when he score wfrom top of the 18' line box with a right footed missile to the far left goalpost to seal the 4-1, win for the Stars and Stripes.

​

With the win, US share first place with Australia with 3-points who defeated Türkiye 2-0, in the other match of Group D.
