World#14, Switzerland blanks Algeria 2-0, with 2-goals in each half and during sold-out game of 52,497 fans,  advance to the round of 16, for the 8th-time in the country World Cup competition to face Colombia who beat Ghana 1-0, at Vancouver Stadium, Canada.

 

Switzerland who qualified the knockout rounds after finishing first with 7-points in the Group stage competition, went to the offensive immediately and during a first major counter-attack found the back of the net to go in front 1-0, through Breel Embolo.

During an offensive attack through the left-side field, Ruben Vargas passed the ball to forward Johan Manzambi who in a breakaway inside the box crossed it to striker Breel Embolo inside the 6-Hard box and score with a left-footed tap in back of the net for 1-0, Swiss at 10' mark.

Both teams traded counter attacks the rest of the half without finding the back of the net with the first period ending 1-0, in favor of Switzerland.

With a minute into the second half, Swiss' defender Denis Zakaria through the right-side corner, sent a cross rolling pass inside the 6-yard box intercepted by Algeria defender Rafik Belghali who failed to clear the ball out if the box to Dan Ndoye who from inside the box score with a low right-footed to the far left goalpost in back of the net to secure the 2-0, win for Switzerland.

With the 1-0, victory, Switzerland advance to the round of 16, to face Colombia Tues July 07, 2026 at Vancouver, Canada.
